Moving Your Site To 3001Web (The process) Print

  • 1

Moving your site to 3001Web could not be easier, we will be doing most of the work for you and what is more we will not charge you for moving your site.

Here is how the process will work:

For each of the stages below, we will open separate support tickets with you in our client area.

Site Migration

We will first take a copy of your site and place it on our servers.
We will run basic checks to ensure that the site migrated correctly.

Email Migration
We will then ask you if your email is hosted with your site or if you have your email separate, then one of the following two things will happen:

If your email is hosted with your site
We will ask you for a list of the email accounts and their passwords so that we can re-create them on your new hosting account with us and copy across any email you have stored.

If your email is hosted separately from your site
If your email is hosted with Microsoft 365, Google, or some other external provider, this step will not be required.

DNS Updates

Once we are happy the transfer of your site and email was a success, we will ask you to either:

Provide us with access to your account with your domain registrar so that we can make the required DNS changes to repoint your domain to our servers. Or if you are confident enough to do this yourself, we will provide you with instructions on how to do so.

We will then need to wait a little while for the internet to catch up with the fact your site has moved. This is known as propagation and can take between 30 minutes and 48 hours (normally it is fairly quick) we have no control over how long it will take the world's data centres to pick up the change.

Final Steps

Once it looks like propagation is complete, we will then ask you to check your site over thoroughly for functionality. If you have contact forms on your site and use 365 or Google for your email you may need to re-authorise any connections from the site to your email accounts, we will help you with that.

We will install our security and maintenance plugins to your site to allow us to keep your site secure and up to date.
We will also recommend any services we may think your site would benefit from and give you information on any legal requirements your site may not be meeting.

That's it! Your site will then be live in its new home with 3001Web, and all our Nerdy support and services will be at your beck and call.
