What is an SSL certificate?
SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer.
It is a method of securing data sent to and from your site.
How does SSL certificate work?
The SSL certificate, once “applied” to your website, allows the web server and the web browser to encrypt the data that's transmitted between them.
Do I need an SSL certificate?
Yes, you do. While these used to be optional or used just for secure transactions, it has now become standard for all websites to have SSL certificates. Modern web browsers like Chrome, Firefox and others will show users warnings that your site is unsafe if you do not have one. Obviously, this will mean people will just hit “back” and not visit your site most of the time.
How Much Do They Cost?
We offer a FREE standard 256bit SSL certificate free for all sites hosted with us. The only disadvantage to the free certificate is that it has to be renewed every three months rather than yearly like a paid certificate, however, this is done automatically. The free certificates we use are provided by Let's Encrypt.
If you require a stronger certificate or a certificate with more insurance, these need to be paid for yearly, please open a support ticket and we will give you a price.
