In the same way we add signatures to emails, you can also add them to forum posts.
The secret here is not to be obvious. Many forums (And quite rightly so) will get upset if you start posting blatant ads for your site on their boards.
HOWEVER
If you sell jewellery, go join a jewellery maker's forum and join in with the discussions. Add a little two-line plug for your site to your signature.
EG:
Jane Smith Jewellery maker
http://www.janesgems.com
If you take time to help people in forums WITHOUT obviously plugging your site, you WILL get visitors from your signature link. The more you help others, the more they will see you as an expert in your field and the more visitors you will get.
This method is all about being subtle. Offer free genuine advice and help to others, the chances are they will check out your site.
